The purpose of Traditional Thai Massage is to provide relaxation, healthy blood circulation, and activation of the body energy lines or Sen.
Thai Massage has its roots in the ancient medicine of Indian Ayurvedic. The influence of Yoga is also present in the body positions and the stretching movements that are part of the Thai Yoga Massage.
The stretching movements affect the entire body. They increase body flexibility, and they release body tension at all levels. The stretching movements complement the working of energy lines and pressure points so that together they produce a highly therapeutic effect
A Traditional Thai Massage at Sabai Jai is generally one hour. Some customers prefer two hours, as the massage therapist is then able to use many massage techniques that are not possible to do in just one hour. Two hours also provides a greater feeling of relaxation for both the customer and the therapist.

The Swedish massage or what is known as “deep tissue massage” is a deeper, firmer massage that suits to men as well as to women. This method uses long and fluid movements, often but not necessarily heading for the heart. The practitioner uses five basic movements: light touch, kneading, chafing, tapping and vibrations. Oil, massage cream or a lotion is applied on the skin to reduce frictions and to allow soft movements.
The Swedish massage aims to :
• improve the blood flow, for it favors the return of the blood towards the heart.
•improve the lymphatic circulation, nourishing and detoxicating the body cells.
• relax the nervous and under stress persons while regenerating their nervous system, improving thus the quality of their sleep and of their daily life.
• dissolve muscular tensions , and while relieving the whole body, it stimulates and strengthens it.
•harmonize and stimulate the self-regulating functions of the body.
Deep Tissue Massage
Aimed at deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. The style uses many of the same movements and techniques as “Swedish massage” but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots.
The fragrant, therapeutic massage technique maximizes the healing properties of essential plant oils and herbs, and is customized to promote relaxation and overall well being.
Thai Foot Reflexology/Foot Massage
Sabai Jai also offers Thai Foot Massage or reflexology. Reflexology originates from an ancient Chinese system and is based on the notion that there are nerve endings in the soles of the feet that correspond to all of the organs of the body such as the liver, kidney or spleen. The gentle and repeated massage of these pressure points stimulates and detoxifies the internal organs and improves circulation to the problem area.
Foot massage begins with a foot bath and is done with the fingers, hands and a small wooden dowel dipped in lotion. It involves both the sides and soles of the feet as well as the energy lines (Sen) of the lower leg.
You may schedule a foot massage separately or you may combine some foot massage with a regular, full-body massage. Please schedule at least 90 minutes for a combined treatment.
Thai massage makes an excellent form of sports massage due to the element of stretching that is unique to this modality. At Sabai Jai we combine traditional sports medicine techniques with Thai massage to help athletes achieve peak performance.
Sports massage, as distinguished from regular massage, focuses more attention on the specific areas of the body that are impacted by each sport. Runners, for example, tend to develop Achilles tendonitis, plantar faciaitis, and ITB syndrome. Tennis players are prone to develop elbow and knee problems, while cyclists suffer from low-back pain, neck problems and wrist strain.
Sports massage also differs from regular massage in that cross-fiber work is used in addition to massage along the length of the muscle to release the build up of lactic acid.
Sports massage can be beneficial as a part of ongoing training, pre-event, and immediately following big events and competitions. The technique and emphasis is varied accordingly.
